Our Founder, Annie, pouring some tea

Our Story

FigWig’s Founder and Top Tea Taster, Annie, tells us how a love for tea became a business:

“I have always loved loose leaf tea.

“Right from the moment I left home I had a ridiculously big selection of different teas that have followed me from university digs, to flats and houses across the country.

“During the Coronavirus pandemic, when many people started to re-evaluate their priorities, I started thinking about my passion for loose leaf tea and decided to start my own business - and so the idea for FigWig’s Tea began to form.

“My fiancé, who has experienced my passion and been introduced to a variety of different teas over our time together (his favourite is Russian Caravan), thought my business idea was brilliant and convinced me to start thinking about how to turn it into a reality.

“The idea grew and became more exciting every day. I began doing some research and development on the business idea to ascertain whether it would be viable.

“With some help from the brilliant team at Learn Smarta, my trusty focus group and, of course, you - my customers, FigWig’s Tea began!

“In case you were wondering, the business is named after my gorgeous black and white cat, Figaro a.k.a FigWig.”

Figaro has many different nicknames…

FigWig, PigWig, Piggly Bum, Wigston, Figwigginton… pick your favourite.

Like all cats, she is a character! She is slightly nervous and very suspicious. Her favourite pastime is sitting at the living room window to watch the comings and goings on our street. She even has her own sofa from which to do so. Thanks Aunt Elise!
